A few months ago my dad was notified that he would be inducted into the Cherry Creek Baseball Hall of Fame for his years of multi-faceted service to the program. He was surprised to receive such an honor.
At first he downplayed it a bit, partly because he has a difficult time receiving recognition and also because he was nervous about giving a speech. Though honored, he wasn’t initially sure if he’d want to go (again, the speech). It wasn’t long before he decided to attend and joyfully receive the honor.
I initially did not plan to attend the celebration since yesterday’s service was a part of our current vision series, Building a Stronger Church. It was a big Sunday where we’d talk about how fighting sin is crucial for drawing close to Jesus. I needed to be there. We’re trying to help people grow in their faith, and I’m their pastor.
But then I got thinking…
I’m quite confident that, at the end of my life, I will not look back and think, I wish I had spent more time working.
But, I realized, this would be a moment that I would eventually regret missing.I’ll have another chance to preach on fighting sin, but I’ll never have another chance to celebrate this award with my dad.
It was the right decision.
And he nailed the speech.
Congratulations, Dad. I’m proud of you.
Congrats to your dad! Glad you were there to honor him.
So glad you went to support your dad! Congrats to him! And Matthew preached a great message yesterday!
Right call man! What a great legacy.
Good choice. And good advice….I think I remember reading something like that here: http://www.faithfulandfruitful.com/10-commandments-of-staff-engagement/
